What is Light

The Light of the Holy Ghost

“That which comes from the Light of the Holy Ghost is of only one species…but that which comes from the Light of Nature is of two species.”

Theophrastus Paracelsus (1493-1541)

With the advent of quantum mechanics, the
dual nature of light was scientifically proven.

The nature of light is apparent to our eyes, but it is also so obscure that no complete description has ever been elucidated. Light in itself can’t be seen, only the source and its reflection. The sources can only be incandescent or luminescent, and can exist naturally and artificially. ¹

Luminescent light genesis happens through decreasing entropy states and quantum mechanics.

Incandescent light genesis happens through increasing entropy states and classical mechanics.

Incandescence is the most efficient and widely used mechanism to produce light in the universe, emitting more photons by the same amount of input energy than luminescence, however not all of this light is visible, total photon output is measured in lux. Luminescence is the least efficient mechanism to produce light in the universe, but more falls within the visible range measured in lumens.

Natural incandescence is produced in the celestial bodies.

Cueva de las manos

Artificial incandescence is produced in fire and incandescent bulbs.

Artificial luminescence is produced in phosphorescent bulbs and semiconductor emitters.

Natural luminescence is produced in creatures like fireflies and some fish, also present in northern lights and will-o’-the-wisps.

A good analogy of these two light producing mechanisms, would be to how a gas oven produces heat compared to a microwave oven. The gas oven heats from the outside to the inside in a classical manner, while the microwave does so in an inverse manner, from the inside to the outside. Both produce the same outcome, but the way to accomplish it is diametrically different, and herein resides the heart of the matter.

 Philippe de Champaigne, 1645.

Both incandescent and luminescent light sources excel in certain uses and applications, with unique photonic properties. Incandescence is unmatched for color rendering and high photonic fidelity purposes thank to its broad range and continuous spectrum, while luminescence is not, because its inherently a superposition of narrow bands of  frequencies, that may appear white but have real spectral voids where there is literally no light. However luminescence excels in digital information transmission and long lasting or miniature inexpensive light bulbs, something indispensable for our modern global communications.

Electricity revolutionized our way of life, yet the first electric light bulb was a continuation of the same type of light we had been exposed since the dawn of mankind. It was the luminescent light bulb that marked the real change, because we rarely seen it before, yet today we seem to be submerged by it from digital displays, our interface to our modern world indispensable tool, the computer, and light is really the only thing we see in them, because everything else is symbol. ²

but does not lose sight of Infinity.”

– The Tao Verse 26

What is entropy?

“Information without entropy is death.”

– Claude Shannon

Entropy is the measure of novelty in the universe, entropy is conventionally defined as disorder, but this is not accurate because disorder can be subjective in a universal sense, but novelty is not subjective. Entropy is novelty and unexpectedness in a signal or phenomena, low entropy has less randomness and more predictability, while high entropy has more randomness and impredictability. In light entropy is found in its phase, frequency, reflection and mode.

“We are the explorers of interior space; novelty is the compass that points toward the unfolding future.”

– Terence Kemp McKenna

Novelty is the quality of being new, original and unexpected, and can encompass both ordered and disordered states, as long as the configurations are always novel or unexpected. Disorder refers to the lack of order or organization in a system, characterized by randomness and unpredictability. However novelty can exist in both ordered and disordered systems, therefore it more widely defines entropy.

SpectrumView screen

State of the art SpectrumView monitors make possible to experience a form of analog time dilation from its high-entropy light.

Electro-indanescent light emitters are made of metal and glass.

Electro-incandescent light emitters can have some of the highest entropy in the universe.

Analog signals are continuous and high in entropy while digital signals are discrete low entropy steps. Both have their special properties and uses.

Electro-luminescent semiconductor emitters are made from silicon wafers and can have some of the lowest entropy in the universe.

State of the art computers can experience a form of digital time dilation from what can be transmitted through its ultra low entropy light.

Photomodulation

“Penetrating red light is possibly the fundamental anti-stress factor for all organisms.”

– Ray Peat

Semiconductors are a genuine marvel of our age and provide indispensable digital applications, also their ability to be transformed into solar cells is worthy of reverence, but when it comes to producing light for our analog biology continuous exposure, such as in a monitor, its intrinsic nature is simply second class to our biology, and can even provoke optic cell degeneration through photo-chemical reactions from prolonged exposure,¹ causing damage to the optic tissue, ²  and negatively disrupting the neuro-protecting pineal gland. ³  ⁴

light waves

SpectrumView monitors are naturally rich in a broad range of infrared light, something completely lacking in common monitors. Infrared light frequencies penetrate deep in the tissue, and regenerate optic cells, thus reducing ocular inflammation and alleviate photo-sensitiveness, it also improves blood circulation to the brain, enhancing cognitive function and memory formation.

Japanese woddworking

Precision woodwork with thick frame and detachable strong copper stands, natural lac varnished grips.

Optional magnetic inner low-EMF screen.

SpectrumView monitors are built to last, made for long working sessions, with quality wood and components, thermally protected by sophisticated airflow cooling design, with genuine brass heat-sink reflectors and high quality low-speed fans, additional EMF shielding available upon request. Copper wiring and strong copper mounts, detachable for transportation or to suspend in front of a window for natural day backlight. The incandescent light bulbs are standard Edison base, size and wattage for household appliances such as ovens, and are approved since they are not used for general space illumination. Everything works with either 120V or 240V at the flick of an inner switch, which means no need to change all bulbs, so you can use 120V bulbs in a 240V country. Twice as many replacement bulbs are included, which should last for many years. Keep in mind that using only incandescent bulbs at full intensity for the whole day yo backlight your SpectrumView will increase your electricity usage, but if solar backlit the overall consumption will cancel out. Also if used during winter the equivalent thermal energy radiated will be subtracted from your heating costs, so cost will cancel out as well. Further research in thermophotovoltaics and nanophotonics, will make possible incandescent backlights be more widely available in the future…
